G-BOND is a revolutionary one bottle - one coat adhesive which bonds directly to dentine, enamel and glass ionomer cement. The focus behind G-BOND’s development has been durability of seal and simplicity of application as previous generation adhesive systems are prone to degradation and simpler application techniques produce more consistent results.
To achieve greater durability G-BOND is a hydrophobic bonding agent and contains no HEMA. HEMA will degrade over time due to contact with oral and pulpal fluids. G-BOND relies on chemical adhesion to the mineral components of dentine and enamel rather than micromechanical adhesion through infiltration of aggressively etching dentine. The exposed collagen in etched dentine has proven to degrade over time whereas chemically bonded surfaces have shown to be more stable.
Chemical adhesion is achieved by 4-MET and Phosphoric Acid Ester monomers which form the basis of a strong bonded interface identified as a "Nano Interaction Zone".
G-BOND has a fast, simple application technique: brush G-BOND onto the cavity, wait 5 -10 seconds, then air dry with maximum air pressure for 5 seconds followed by light-cure for 10 seconds. This unique application technique ensures no water is left in the bond layer and a minimum film thickness is achieved. After light curing of G-BOND the surface should have a matt appearance which confirms successful placement technique has been followed and provides a surface that composite readily adheres to.
